Pathology Services Recovery
Pathology services in south east London were subject to a cyber-attack incident on 3 June. This meant that local laboratories and IT systems could not be used for blood and non-blood pathology testing. Since June “Mutual Aid” from other NHS pathology services has been provided to support urgent and high priority pathology testing. Synnovis, the provider of pathology services in south east London, has completed the rebuild of their IT systems and it is expected that testing for Bromley GPs will return to Synnovis laboratories this week. This is an important step toward phlebotomy (blood testing) services returning to normal. However, as there is a backlog of patients waiting for a blood test there will unfortunately still be delays as local phlebotomy services work to reduce the backlog. Your GP has been advised to continue to prioritise blood test requests to ensure those with the longest waits for a blood test can be seen. Thank you for your continued patience as services work to recover from the cyber-attack incident.
